"Margin Of Error" (marginoferror)

Let's start this with a disclaimer. I know how good the current Cadillac are, but they are not proper Cadillac in the sense that they are not proper Cadillac. They are German sport sedans made in America, they are world car with a twist of Connecticut.
The 1992 Cadillac Brougham was the last American car to carry the Brougham badge. Nowadays, modern Cadillac are carrying meaningless monikers such as XTS, CTS and AST. Good thing they still have the Escalade, which is a great name for that kind of vehicle, and is sounds French, which is good because proper Cadillac always had French names : Coupe de Ville, Sedan du Ville, Allante, Eldorodo, Etcetera..
In 1992, GM said Adios to the sleek Brougham and replaced it with a goofy looking blob, the 1993 Fleetwood. It was phased out after the 1996 season.
The 1992 Cadillac Brougham was a mature, stately, noble, grandiose automobile, and I think this is what a proper Cadillac should be. I don't think "as good as a BMW" is enough.

I'm actually a big fan of the Fleetwood. It also came in Brougham trim if I'm not mistaken.

I happen to like that goofy looking blob and would argue that was the last true cadillac. Otherwise good post.

The DTS is what I would have considered the end of the line. It was pretty much a continuation of the DeVille line that goes back to the 50s or the mid-80s when they switched to FF depending on how you want to look at it. The L-version in particular just screams classic Caddy with better body stamping.

A early 2000s Deville came into my shop a few weeks ago. I was never a big fan of the Northstar FWD cars. But it was equipped with their passive FLIR. I wouldn't mind one of those cars just for that alone

By your logic this doesn't count as a real Cadillac either. Eldorados have been FWD since the late 60s.

I agree it isn't, Jay Leno saw the same issues and rectified them - http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/…
and yes I know its an olds not a caddy but same concept.

Yes, maybe, but it was just a trim, not a proper model.

My Grandma rocked one. I think, compared to the Eldorado they may be more Prestige Worldwide than prestige though.

You write a post about how the Brougham was the last proper Cadillac without actually knowing what cars Cadillac produced right after it? What the actual fuck? Also the '93-96 Fleetwood was sold as a Brougham, even if it was just a trim level. It was more Cadillac than the '92 could've ever hoped for.

No, I'd have to go with the 1996 Fleetwood as the last proper Cadillac. Still RWD, body on frame, lots of chrome, 6-passenger seating, column shift, 5.7L V8, giant trunk, and it's even bigger than the '92.
It also has a lot of the traditional Cadillac styling cues - eggcrate grille, fender spats, standup hood ornament, optional vinyl roof, and even vestigial tailfins out back.
Its the final, ultimate evolution of the 1960s & 1970s take on a big luxury car, the end of the road.

Bingo. That ‘92 was beyond “long in the tooth,” dating back to 1977 for the basic body and interior. I believe that beats the C3 Corvette’s tenure by one year, and that production span is considered excessive even by GM standards.
The '94-96 Fleetwoods are awesome, and low-mile examples are ramping up in price as the last of the breed. Yes, the body was the same on the '93s, but with a less-powerful engine.

The 1994 thru 1996 were the best Fleetwoods. Bar None!
Same body on frame design with living room sized interior but much easier to live with. And the LT1 with 330 lb/ft of torque was pure deliciuosness
